Oracle Privacy Security Auditing
Chapter 2 Introduction
to Oracle Security
What is
Security
Before diving into this topic, let's take a
moment to define what we mean by the word ‘security’ and what is
expected when something is said to be secure. Security does not mean
restricting access, far from it, it may actually allow better access
for legitimate users. Compare this concept to a museum with several
doors. Security in this context means that the museum authorities
have the ability to let a person enter the museum using one of the
doors. However, the person can enter the museum only if the
authorities allow him or her to do so, never without their consent.
Being secure means that if the person is denied access, he or she
cannot enter in any other way. It also means that there are no
hidden or unknown doors, windows, or other access points that an
intruder can use to gain entry into the museum. By restricting entry
to legitimate museum customers, the museum ensures there are no more
than the acceptable number of people inside to comply with the fire
code, etc., and in the process, enhances the general experience of

visitors.
In this chapter, we will explore the various
types of server security from the ground up. With each topic, we
will also examine its relevance to meeting HIPAA and other privacy
requirements.
Physical Security
How does the museum
protect its displays? The very fact that exhibits are inside the
walls of the museum
